Office of Commuter Affairs

Welcome to the Office of Commuter Affairs! Commuters make up the largest population of students at Duquesne in terms of overall enrollment. Any student, whether undergraduate or graduate, who does not live in University-owned housing is considered a commuter student.

So, a student is considered a commuter whether they commute from their permanent residence or from their local residence in areas such as South Side, Mt. Washington, or Uptown, just to name a few. Duquesne University is unique in that it has an entire office and space dedicated to assisting its large and diverse commuter population.

Commuter Affairs at a Glance

The Office of Commuter Affairs works diligently to help students feel at home and part of the Duquesne family. The staff strives to ensure that students excel both academically and socially by providing various services, programs, and facilities to meet their needs. This includes assisting students in seeking out help through the various academic resources available, off-campus housing information, as well as information and resources related to commuting.

The Commuter Assistant (CA) program pairs each new undergraduate freshman and transfer commuter student with an upperclassman who serves as a mentor for them throughout their first year at Duquesne. Other popular programs and events that are sponsored by Commuter Affairs include Commuter Pre-Orientation, PB&J Wednesdays, and the Meet Program, just to name a few. Commuter Council is the governing student body for all students that commute to Duquesne and they sponsor various activities throughout the year as well. There is always something going on for students!

Located on the first floor of the Duquesne Union building, the Commuter Center is a beautiful space for commuter students to study, socialize with other students and staff, and relax in between classes. The Commuter Affairs and Commuter Council offices are both located here, as well as a lounge area with a kitchenette, a computer lab, and a quiet study room.
