The Mission Continues
Our history shows that concern for the poor and marginalized
was the primary inspiration for the foundation of Duquesne University.
Service exists at the core of the University’s Catholic
and Spiritan identity. The spirit of service manifested in the
life and actions of Jesus is incorporated into the requirements
of all our academic programs, and also manifests itself in a variety
of extracurricular volunteer activities. The majority of our students
as well as a large segment of our faculty and staff are involved
in volunteer efforts, making Duquesne a leader among American
universities in its commitment to service. Duquesne graduates
distinguish themselves not only by sincere charity but also by
a dedication to justice.
While instilling the spirit of service in our students, Duquesne
continues in its commitment to the fulfillment of each student’s
individual potential. This is manifested in the Spiritan Division,
a program that supports at-risk students with tutoring, counseling
and financial assistance. Our openness to the Spirit leads us
to respect the uniqueness of each person as made in the image
and likeness of God.
